The World Rally Championship's official video game license holder, Nacon, has filed for insolvency, leaving the future of the beloved racing franchise in limbo.
Nacon, a French gaming company, stepped into the spotlight as the developer of the WRC games in 2025, taking over from EA Sports. This transition came after EA's decision to pause its rally game development, leaving a void in the market that Nacon aimed to fill.

They initially acquired the license by purchasing Kylotonn Games in 2018, which had held the official WRC rights from 2015 to 2022. However, Nacon's majority shareholder, BigBen Interactive, is currently facing financial troubles. Last week, they announced that their banking pool couldn't provide sufficient capital to repay a loan to their bondholders. This liquidity issue has left Nacon unable to manage its current debt, despite the potential income from ongoing game sales.
