As Dr. Richard Hatchett, CEO of CEPI, poignantly stated, "During COVID-19, the world paid the price of not being prepared." He emphasized that recent outbreaks of Nipah, Ebola, Chikungunya, and Marburg serve as stark reminders of the immense challenges posed by these diseases. At its heart lies the 100 Days Mission, CEPI's revolutionary goal: to develop safe, effective, and accessible vaccines against a virus with pandemic potential in an astonishing 100 days. The new strategy outlines three interconnected priorities to ensure faster and fairer protection for everyone:
- Developing Vaccines for Known and Emerging Threats: CEPI will not only advance response-ready vaccines for formidable known pathogens like Lassa, Nipah, and Rift Valley fever but will also generate the scientific tools, data, and knowledge across viral families that the World Health Organization identifies as potential pandemic-causers. This pioneering research will significantly accelerate new vaccine development, giving the world a crucial head start.
- Advancing Rapid-Response Platforms: The goal here is to have platform technologies ready for swift vaccine development and production. CEPI will work with regional manufacturers, ensuring countries can react quickly to outbreaks. Close collaboration with regulators will streamline the assessment of candidate vaccines, promoting faster manufacturing scale-up and greater equity from the outset.
- Supporting Global Networks for the 100 Days Mission: CEPI will connect, strengthen, and rigorously test its global scientific networks. These networks will be primed to respond seamlessly in emergencies, covering every stage from early R&D to manufacturing. The plan includes securing 1–2 billion doses of regional manufacturing capacity to enable rapid and fair outbreak responses.

"In this increasingly fragmented and vulnerable world, the need for a global, science-led health protection plan is clear," stated the Coalition’s Chair, Hon. Prof. Jane Halton. "Investing in CEPI’s innovation and rapid response capabilities is one of the smartest steps countries can take to protect themselves and the world from future crises."
Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director-General of Africa CDC, echoed this sentiment, highlighting CEPI's transformative role for Africa, particularly its 100 Days Mission. "Our partnership with CEPI helps Africa to strengthen our surveillance capacity so we can detect outbreaks early and to put in place the infrastructure to develop and manufacture safe and effective vaccines that make Africa and the world safer."

CEPI 3.0 builds on CEPI's impressive track record. In less than a decade, CEPI has become a cornerstone of global health security. It has supported over 50 vaccine candidates and 25 platform investments, co-led COVAX to deliver nearly 2 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses, and contributed to significant scientific breakthroughs for numerous dangerous pathogens, always with equity at its core.
