PMPL Adult Programs

2017 SRP

We are offering an assortment of programs at the library for our adult patrons. Our goal is to provide regular programs featuring arts, crafts, personal well-being, technology, health, and other seasonal activities that keep the mind and body invigorated through learning, and of course, lots of reading.

Book Club is a self-guided group that meets on the second Saturday of every month from 1:30 - 2:30 pm in the 2nd floor quiet reading room with cozy chairs and fireplace.
Titles are varied and can be read in print, audio, or digital form when available. Everyone is welcome and can suggest books for future meetings.
Call the reference desk 507-894-8860 x 4 for information & to register.

Our ebooks and emagazines are for both audio (listenting) and visual (reading), so please pay attention to product icons.
You need a 14 digit barcode on your PMPL library card to use our ebooks and emags. Just ask if you have any questions!

Rosetta Stone language software is now available to use in the library. We have French, Italian, German, Chinese, Spanish, English, Chinese and Arabic. You need a library card to make an appointment to use Rosetta Stone in our tutoring lab. You can create and manage your own account, and learn at your own pace with their expert instruction! Just ask for more information.

  • Saturday February 3rd @ 1:00 pm - Knitters & Crochet Club - Anyone interested in knitting and crochet is welcome to join the Pocono Mt. Knitting and Crochet Guild on the first Saturday of the month. Participants meet in the 2nd Floor conference room A. Bring your own yarn and needles - members help each other and share stitch tips. Registration is not required.

  • Monday February 5th @ 5:30 pm - MOVIE EVENT: featuring Free Angela. Kick off Black History Month with a free viewing of the documentary movie about Angela Davis' trial for accessory to murder and her brief run from the law. This though provoking documentary shows the complications of the civil rights movement, Ms. Davis' academic and civil rights career. This movie event is free and open to the public. The movie will show in our 2nd floor community room. Registration required! Call for more information 570-894-8860 x 4.

  • Thursday, March 8th from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm - E-book Workshop: Join Joe on the 2nd floor for help getting e-books on your phone or device. Set up a time that works best for you, and we’ll do our best to help get you started. When registering, let us know what kind of device you have. Be sure to come in with your device adequately charged.

  • Saturday, March 10th at 1:00 pm - Saturday Book Club featuring The Quiche of Death by M.C. Beaton. Join us for a lively conversation about this hilarious book - the first in the Agatha Raisin mystery series. Book club takes place in our cozy fireplace reading room on the 2nd floor. All are welcome. Light refreshments served. Registration required! See above for more information on our book club.

  • Saturday March 13th at 1:00 pm - Short Story Book Club ~ A book club for people in a hurry! Do you miss reading, but don’t have time to commit to a whole novel? Join Joe on the second floor in our fireplace room for a light refreshments and discussion. This month featuring Dorothy Parker’s short story, “The Bolt Behind the Blue.” Please ask if you need help finding a copy of this story. Registration required.

  • Wednesday, March 14th at 5:00 pm - MOVIE EVENT: Learn about a remarkable figure in women’s history and art by watching the wonderful movie, Frida, directed by Julie Taymor and starring Selma Hayek. Frida is a dramatic romance and biographical film about the famous Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo, that was nominated for six academy awards. Snacks will be available.

  • Wednesday, March 21st at 6:00 pm - Guitar Workshop with Joe: Have a guitar and don’t know how to play it? Join Joe on the 2nd floor of PMPL for a free guitar workshop. In honor of Women’s History Month, we will be going over Joan Jett’s classic “I Love Rock’n’Roll.”

  • Thursday March 27th @ 10:30 am - Join Ananda certified mediation instructor, Bev Abel, for a relaxing hour of mediation activities to help ease your mind and body. Mediation helps total body relaxation. All activities take place while seated on a chair. Registration required!
